Ol' Chum, or just Chum, formerly known as Minion, is a sapient fish-like alien creature encased in a water-filled suit shaped like a robotic gorilla, although he is capable of surviving outside the suit and even on dry land just fine. He is the loyal companion of Metro City's resident supervillain, Megamind, and acts as his assistant, manservant, and caretaker, as well as his closest friend.[1]
He changed his name from Minion to Ol' Chum due to a cease-and-desist order from the popular food chain Mr. Minion's Meat-sicles.[2]
Biography[]
Chum's species is unknown, although he might be native to the same planet as Megamind, which would likely make him the last of his species. When the planet was about to be consumed by a black hole, Megamind's parents placed their infant son and the creature they referred to as his "Minion" inside an escape pod headed for Earth, and explained to young Megamind that his Minion would take care of him. Sure enough, the aquatic aide proved himself an extremely dedicated and incredibly overqualified sidekick who supported Megamind in his villainous endeavors and took care of his domestic chores[1]. He describes himself as proficient in robotics, neuroscience, chemical engineering, death-ray construction, bio-engineering, and event planning[2].
